Well for me, Death is very like this week's theme. Its juz seem like a week to hear lots of death.
First, it started on Sunday with the memorial service of Samuel Toh's Grandma.
Then on Wednesday, heard from Shauna, to inform Nat, that no Singapore National Youth Orchestra (SNYO) practice on thurs because of the death of the Principal Flutist, Danil. Just learned that he died on his 16th birthday.
Friday was our church special event 11:59 based on a theme of death.
So yea... It was a "deadly" week.
So Today, felt like blogging about death.

My Views on Death
In one of 11:59's video, it shows some views of teenagers on "Death" and so I'm gonna start with my views on Death.

Facts of Death
Lets face it, everyone has to experience death one day, unless Jesus returns to bring us home. You and I will die one day. Death is inevitable. So we must really live life to the fullest.

Death can come swiftly or over a long period. But it really hurt the most when death come swiftly, without warning. Like a Robber in the night, stealthily stealing its loot. I know its hurts alot beacause I have gone through it before.

My maternal uncle's death was without warning. Still remembered that night.
It was a wednesday and the G12 members just left the house after G12. Then came the ringing of the phone. My cousin called in but I could not regonised her voice because of her frantic phase and I couldn't catch a single thing she said. I thought she got the wrong number but then she said who she was and then the bad news which gripped me. I couldn't utter a word after that and didn't even tell my bro who was in the living room with me. My mom was not with us at that time but soon heard the bad news over her handphone.
One moment he called home to say that he was coming back for dinner, the next hour, people found him on the floor at a gym without a breath. No one really knew what happened.

Fear of Death?
Haha... honestly, I'm not really afraid to die. If God's willing, let Him take me Home. Its up to Him when I will go home.
But sometimes, I do fear abit. Not the fear of dying but rather the fear of what I won't be able to do with my time on Earth. There alots of things that I wanna do. Then again, it would be crazy to choose this world over Eternity.

Overcoming Death
The only way I feel to overcome death is through Jesus Christ. He has promise us salvation and an eternal home in heaven. For God so much love the world that he sent his one and begotten son, for whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have ever-lasting life- John 3:16... Jesus is the only way for you to live a happy life and fearing no evil because He will carry you in His arms in whatever you do if you follow his ways.

Homesick
Haha... it's not another of my horrible singing.
Sometimes, you may feel like asking why God has let this happen. But God has its reason and purpose behind all this. So who are we to question Him who knows all things. Anyway, you don't need all the answers to all of life's question, you'll just have to know the Lord is with you. He will stay by your side. Sometimes he chooses to calm your storm, sometimes he decide to ride it with you.

This song is especially for this theme. It is written by a great band Mercyme who also wrote songs like "I Can Only Imagine" and others. Sometimes, you just can't handle the pain of losing someone you dearly love. You would feel like joining them so that you're would be together in Heaven. You would feel Homesick, just so far away from your eternal home.
During one time, 8 people who were somehow related to the band Mercyme suddenly passed away over the span of just 6 weeks. So the lead singer, Bart Millard, felt a deep burden in his heart and decided to write this song about how he felt.

You know why?
Because TOMMY EMMANUEL is coming to town!
Yea, he would be performing at the victoria theatre at 8pm tomorrow.
Will be going with Gerald, Royston, Tao Liang... Hmm.. Still got who huh?

Haha... The Joke of the Day made by Pastor Lim- The government support the "yellow ribbon" project and "force" the private sectors to hire them. Yet, the government refuses to employ because of their criminal record. Lolx... Supporting, like real man.
He really sounded like giving a election rally speech... Haha, got people clapping somemore.

Lastly, deepest condolence to Samuel and Esther Toh whose grandmother went home to be with the Lord yesterday. God really blessed her with a long life... 91 yrs old...

Sorry, in my previous post, no one could open the video because I put it under private. So ya... now can see...

So what I did today... lolx... In school quite sianz ar.
I skip math lecture, no PE because of haze! sianz... and Project Work didn't progress much, just distributed which parts each of us taking in Oral Presentation.

However, Band was FUN! Even though Dr Lee last minute could not make it. Wao lao, just this morning then tell me not coming. But still had practice. Sectionals then combine under the baton of our student conductor- Aidross!
We did El Camino Real... though I never really hear it before today... was super interested in this song after looking at the score. Lolx... I played the Timpani part, super interesting for don't know why.
Here's El Camino Real:

However, I was super disappointed with the Band attendance. No one could really see it though.

Then Band finishes and we went for dinner.
Wanted to go dinner with Nat, Ruth, Aidross... But later Aidross back out and I don't want to be a "distraction" so I went with the other group. Ain, Maggie, Hwee Ling, Xavier, Grace, and the 2 alumni, Wei Lun and Jing Zhong(Sry, don't know if correct, the others also don't know, haha).

Tonight suppose to go for the Quiz at church, Sorry Michelle, couldn't make it... But good news, could make it next friday. Haha

I was thinging of what I should blog about... I don't want to blog the norm of telling you how my day was... so decided to blog about something that you may be interested to know from me... I've decided to blog
HOW I BEGAN DRUMMING!!!

wow... I began to be very amazed to think of how my drum journey has been so far... Never really realised how wonderful God has been to me through my drumming, a gift from God in the first place, until I've decided to blog on this.

So how I began? Let's go to the very root of it.

When I was Primary 3, My mother decided to put me in the Percussion Ensemble of my school, Gongshang Primary School, as a CCA. Well, so that's how I got into the whole percussion thingy. But during those years, I never touched the Drumset at all. However it did teach me the basic rudimentals which is essential for drumset playing. Under the training of Ngoh Kheng Seng, who was and still considered as one of Singapore's best percussionist and he is currently playing in the Sinagpore Chinese Orchestra(SCO), he taught me alot bout Percussion and became his "No. 1" Timpani player... So actually Timpani is my fav perk instrument, not the drumset amazingly...

Then I was invited to play with my school's String Ensemble, which is reputable as one of Singapore's Best Primary School String Ensemble, as a Timpani player on their tour of Taiwan in 2000. Ya, had lots of fun there.

That's also where the Pastor Dale saw the potential in me for playing the drumset. Because at that time, the church still had like a mass prayer for prayer requests that were brought up on sundays. And on one sunday, my prayer request of the Taiwan trip was brought up and the whole church now knew I was a "Percussionist". About a few months later, was approach by a few people, can't remember who were they.I think it was Pastor Dale,Youth Pastor, Pastor Mong Yee, Music Pastor, and Kirk, my drums Si Fu (Master), and sat down with me and my mother and dicussed my future in drums!

At that time in Radical Zone (RZone), a youth service for secondary schools students at that time. We did not have a drummer for over a year because the previous one was enlisted into NS. So ya, a youth band w/o a drummer? ya... Weird... lolx

Lolz... So yea, I prayed about it and accepted to be taught drums... And Kirk became my Si Fu.
Master Kirk Chang

Fyi, Kirk is our resident Main Drummer of the church.

So in 2001, when I was Primary 6, the training began. However we didn't had a real drum training where a time slot is given to me for him to teach me until after my PSLE... then immediately after that on the saturday, 1.00pm-3.00pm if I'm not wrong at the Singapore Chinese Girl School (SCGS), which was my church's temporary venue at that time. And Just after 3 weeks!!! I debuted in an RZone event called "Life Sux!" and the special speaker that day was so happen to be Kirk himself. Haha, still remembered my first song was "Lord, I Lift Your Name On High". So yea, after that, I was a regular drummer at RZone from Oct 2001 - May 2004.

Life was hard at my early stage, my skills was so "lousy" and limited and there were obviously better drummers in the RZone. Some would even go to the drums and "Showoff" after the service and I was abit down by that fact. Moreover, Kirk at around April 2002 had to stop teaching me because he had to go back to do some Army engineering stuff for National Day on every saturday. That was also the end of the regular lessons on saturday. So I had no where to learn from and I never wanted to go a music school to learn due to bad experience from my previous piano lessons.

Then one sunday, I remembered Pastor Dale was preaching something like- Don't let others affect you that it hinders from you from fulfilling your potential. Remember God will also be by your side and He see you the way no other can. If it is God's will, then it will be fulfilled.
Amen, God really spoke to me and I told him that day- You would not have place me in drums if it wasn't your will. So bless me Lord, that I may improve and be used as your servant.

Then one day, I bought a VCD of Hillsong's Blessed album and I became so inspired about how that drummer, Luke Munns, played. He was so passionate in his playing and I wanted to be like him. Thank God that the Church donated an old drumset to me and I was able to practice at home. I tried imitating him and in the course of it, my skills began to improve. SERIOUSLY!! Amazing how imitation can be good.

I was Secondary One in 2002 and I joined the Band as a CCA... At that time, my conductor hired a Percussion tutor to help us. And he is super good at the Drumset. He taught me alot and I really appreiate him. He taught me to be fluent in drums and even taught me how to be a independant learner. Unfortunately, due to other commitments, he only taught my school from 2002 to early 2003.

I would say I improve quite well from then on... In Febuary 2003, Debutted in Hearts On Fire (HOF) because Kirk went for holiday. Haha... slowly I was a regular in HOF and a few months later, took over all the dutties which means I became like a resident HOF drummer, playing for every Friday.

First major project was Christmas Rock 2003... Then had the chance to play the drumset at the main service when we made a guest appearance on Christmas Day.

Then in 2004, God gave me the opportunity to play in the Main Service. Because Kirk was blessed with an opportunity to furthur his studies in Australia so Pastor Mong Yee gave me this chance to be rostered along with angus for sundays.

Angus also taught me drums then. Angus was Kirk's teacher in the past and Kirk was my teacher so Angus is like my grand master... WoW....
Lol, he is an extremely good drummer and teacher... He taught me to go back to the fundamentals and apply rudimentals into my drumming... He really expanded my knowlege of drummming widely. Really thank God for him.

Ricky Ho did not directly teach me drums but he did indirectly helped to improve my drum skills especially in terms of timing and playing as a band. Ricky Ho is keyboardist in my church and a famous musician/ producer in Singapore.
Ricky Ho

He is an award winning arranger and producer and arranged many orchestra pieces for movies and commerical. As a successful music producer, Ricky has contributed to the success of major recording artistes such as Tracy Huang, Eric Moo, Dick Lee, Jacintha Abishenagen, Sammi Cheng, Sally Yeh, Anita Mui, Alan Tam, Leon Lai, Andy Lau, Aaron Kwok, Kelly Chen, A-mei, Su-Rei, Teresa Teng, Wang Jie, Jeff Chang, Young Tigers, Wang Lee Hom, Sky Wu, Rene Liu, Zhang Qingfang and many others. He is also the producer for our church's albums.

He was strict when it comes to music and I really improved under his guidance. More Info of him at

Yeah man!!!... The stressful Promos are finally over!!!.... YES!
Now can relax man... kKz, but next year 'A' levels liaoz... sianz...
This Promos more stressful than 'O's lah... I don't know how I would survive next year...
Just be prayed up and enter the 'A' levels with a quiet confidenc and trust in the Lord Almighty... just like Daniel in the Old testament. He prayed alot and was "Prayed Up" and when he enetered the Lion's Den, he did not utter a word. Entering the lion's den with quiet confidence.

So what I doing now?... Yeah Computer Games!! Lolx, actually not that interesting, its Championship Manager 5, but still love to play it.

Haha, yeah, tomorrow going Marche! with the usual marche gang- Shauna, Charlie and Sherlene... So is it Lunch or Dinner?

Another thing I wanna do from now to next year is to do more personal studio recordings... Yea, I've got studio mixer in my lappie. haha, so who are the musicians and production people? Well,
Drums & Percussion- Me
Guitars- Me
Keyboards- Me
Keyboard Bass (cuz no bass at home)- Me
Vocalist- Scaryly Me also...
Mixing and producing- Me
Lolx... So it is pretty much a one man show... Haha
My next project would probably the song King by Tree63...
So far got 2 songs that I recorded... One Year Six Months and Homesick (Acoustic) version... Hope can upload Homesick for you all to listen :)
FYI...Lyrics to that song was posted in my previous post

And yeah, Band is BACK!!! finally after promos cut our practice... Hope Band can work hard towards SYF next Year...

Happy Promos Over... lolx...

You're in a better place, I've heard a thousand times.
And at least a thousand times, I've rejoiced for you.
But the reason why I'm broken, the reason why I cry,
is how long must I wait to be with you.

I close my eyes and I see your face.
If home's where my heart is, then I'm out of place.
Lord won't You give me strength to make it through somehow.
Never been more homesick than now.

Help me Lord, 'cause I don't understand your ways.
The reason why, I wonder if I'll ever know.
But even if You showed me, the hurt would be still be the same.
'Cause I'm still here, so far away from home.

I close my eyes and I see your face.
If home's where my heart is, then I'm out of place.
Lord won't You give me strength to make it through somehow.
Never been more homesick than now.

In Christ, there are no goodbyes.
And in Christ, there are no ends.
So I'll hold on to Jesus, with all that I have.
To see you again, To see you again.

And I close my eyes and I see your face.
If home's where my heart is, then I'm out of place.
Lord won't You give me strength to make it through somehow.
Never been more homesick than now.

So I’m laying down my life/And I’m taking up my cross

[Chorus]
I’m taking up my cross/Laying down my life/All for the glory of Your name/I’m living my whole life/All for You Jesus/Taking up my cross everyday

Thank God for a wonderful Live Worhip Gig. We only had 2 weeks of practice though they gave the annoucement like 1 and half months before the event.

But it was really a wondeful night and I can really feel the presence of God there as I was playing the drums.

The night started with special intro then leading to the next song, which was a new song, "Everyday". Then was the fast pace and energetic "God Is Great", an old song revived. Then everyone jumped to the beat of "One Way". That was the first segment of the nite.

Then the 2nd segments was the slow songs. Joy gave a short and wonderful solo of "I stand in awe of You" which then lead into "I Stand For You", by Tree63. This song was then joined to "To God Be The Glory", done in "My Tribute" version by the Katinas.

Now the 3rd segment involving fast and moderate songs. First up was the classic "King Of Majesty". Next is a new song by Casting Crowns, "If we are the Body" which then lead into "Blessed Be Your Name".

Then came the Word of God shared by Pastor Woon Tai Chian. A wonderful message on the True Heart of Worship.

Then finally the 4th segment, starting with the song "Nothing but The Blood" by Tree63. "The Love of God", another new song by MercyMe, was next and the whole night ended with the song "Heart of Worship" where he had a wonderful 5+ mins of free worship at the end.

Indeed, it was a wonderful Night of Praise.

Some pics of me... Haha
